Found it. Unique History, Scenic Beauty & Charming Downtowns
Cumberland Valley offers a vast collection of things to see and do that will make any visit one you won’t soon forget.
History buffs will marvel in the area’s centuries-old roots. The Cumberland Valley is rich in history from its architectural downtowns to the modern facilities honoring past heroes. Experience different eras of the past by immersing in the Valley’s long history at the Cumberland County Historical Society, honoring the Civil War Sesquicentennial with a self-guided walking tour or see history with new eyes in downtown Carlisle with the QR coded wayside markers.
If your passion is hiking, biking, kayaking, seeking out breathtaking views, or simply being outdoors, you’ll find it all and more in the Cumberland Valley. Cumberland Valley is home to the midway point of the 2,175-mile Appalachian Trail, which is located near the Appalachian Trail Museum and offers opportunities for day hikes. You can also seek out geocaching treasures on the South Mountain GeoTrail or spend a day exploring one of three state parks or two state forests. Enjoy a more relaxing day outdoors on the Cumberland Valley Rail Trail or with a guided horseback ride through the North Mountain.
When it’s time to stop for a break or you are craving a downtown vibe, Cumberland Valley is not short on choices. Our charming downtowns offer a variety of shops, restaurants, art galleries, museums, performing arts centers and lodging choices to rest for the night. Spend an afternoon, day or entire weekend shopping for locally made crafts, discovering historic gems and dining at an exciting assortment of restaurants, ranging from local favorites to upscale, riverfront cuisine.
